How local AI works

Plain English: the tutor brain lives on a PC in your house.

Parent hub

One Windows PC runs the Funbot parent hub. That machine downloads a local model (first-time internet) and answers tutoring prompts on your home network. Notes, progress, and homework images stay in your family’s app data.

Child devices

A child’s Windows PC can run Funbot as a child client, or a tablet/browser on the same Wi‑Fi can open the hub’s child page. The heavy AI work stays on the parent hub — the child’s device is the face and the workbook, not a second cloud account.

What “local” does not mean

Local does not mean “never needs the internet ever.” Setup and updates need a connection. It means day-to-day tutoring is not designed to upload your child’s worksheet to a public AI chatbot.

Hardware honesty

Faster GPUs give snappier replies. Funbot also supports lighter hybrid and CPU modes so ordinary household PCs can still run — just slower. You should not need a $2,000 machine to try it.
